It was the last week of May, 1999 when I joined weight watchers, the
very next week in a meeting our leader Denise had invited Colleen, a
trainer from OPT, to speak to a group. She explained the benefits of
weight training. Afterward, Colleen answered all my questions and I
began strength training three days later. Since that time I have
worked out three times a week.
I had always wanted to work with weights, but had no knowledge of how
or even just where to begin. Colleen showed up at a really good time
for me because I was wanting major changes in my life and I was willing to
work hard for them. Colleen and Angie have provided instruction and
encouragement in these past five months. I'm thankful to both of
them.
In the past I had joined many different exercise classes but I didn't
stick with them because I didn't enjoy them. I had read that working
with weights was good for people my age -I'm nearly 50. I basically
wanted to strength train for the benefit of keeping bone and muscle mass.
I knew after my first week at OPT that this was an exercise program I
could enjoy and not dread.
There have been so many surprise benefits to strength training like
having more energy and losing inches quite quickly. Toning my body
was something I hadn't even hoped for, yet it is happening nevertheless.
Plus my posture has improved! Strength training has surely aided in
my weight loss and given me more self confidence. I have gone down
four jean sizes and have lost 32lbs.. It is so nice to have found an
exercise I will be able to benefit from in so many ways for the rest of my
life - and ENJOY it!!!
